  • On Wednesday, Muran died from injuries sustained in a car accident last week.

Former Johannesburg Mayor Mfo Muran has been described as an enterprising, multi-skilled leader who put his talents and creative energy at the disposal of Johannesburg citizens when he was honored.

He died Wednesday afternoon.

He “moved to public office and used his vast experience as a business owner, and earlier in his life as a craftsman, to lift the spirits of citizens in the subway,” said President Cyril Ramaphosa when expressing condolences to the Muran family.

Ramaphosa said his thoughts were focused on Murano’s wife, Fikile, and their four children, as well as the extended family and network of friends, comrades and colleagues of the former mayor.

Ramaphosa said:

We will miss his contribution to his political house, the African National Congress, and to the development of Johannesburg as one of the most important economic and cultural centers of our country and continent.

Johannesburg Mayor Mfo Phalace said she was dumbfounded by the news of his death.

“He was the leader of the ANC assembly and the former executive mayor of Johannesburg, and although he sat through the aisle as part of the opposition, he always sought to participate in the development of the city and how we, as leaders in Johannesburg, could work together to serve the interests residents. “

“Bico (my namesake), as we affectionately called each other, will forever remain a special place in my heart – not only as a colleague, but also as the one I called a friend,” said Phalace.

The large ANC region of Johannesburg also paid tribute to Meran, who was its treasurer.

“His life has been adorned with service to the people and effective governance. He served at the MMC for the environment and infrastructure services, and then was the executive head of the metro and will forever be remembered as a lifelong activist.

“His death is a great loss to the ANC and the general public,” the regional ANC said in a statement.

Moran was hospitalized for a week after a horrific car accident.

Family spokesman Mike Mail announced his death at Netcare Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg on Wednesday night.

He said Muran was hospitalized in the intensive care unit, where he received maximum expert medical care, support and round-the-clock care for injuries.

The Mail described Moeran as “benevolent” and “always doing his best to support low-income communities in the subway.”

He served as mayor of Johannesburg from October 1 to November 22, 2021.

He took office after the city quickly lost mayors Jolidi Matong and Jeff Mahubo.
