The East African Standby Force – Election Observation Mission (EASF-EOM) began operations in the Republic of Kenya today for the general elections. Mr. Claude Morel, High Commissioner of the Seychelles based in Pretoria, is the EOM’s Head of Mission. High Commissioner Morel and his delegation plan to observe polling stations and hold various meetings with relevant stakeholders to ensure that all electoral activities are in accordance with available protocols.

The EASF-EWG continues to be guided by the 2012 AU African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance, international election observation instruments and the national legal framework governing elections in Kenya.

Based on the results of the mission’s observation, a preliminary report on the evaluation and conduct of the elections will be issued on Wednesday, August 10, 2022.

Kenyans are expected to vote for the new president and deputy president, county and peer governors, members of the Senate, representatives of the National Assembly and members of county assemblies.

The EOM delegates include the Seychelles, Mr. Jules Joaro and Ms. Octavia Rose.
