Fans, friends and colleagues remember the late gospel musician Deborah Fraser at a memorial service in Johannesburg on Thursday.

A Sunday gospel star who has won many awards died on Sunday at Chris Hani Baragwanata Hospital after a brief illness; she was 56.

The family of the gospel star confirmed her death in a statement on Facebook.

Deborah Fraser will be buried in Hillcrest, KwaZulu-Natal, on Saturday, May 21st.

The singer, who was born in KwaZulu-Natal, began her musical career as a backing singer for such as Rebecca Malop, Yvonne Chuck Chuck, Hugh Masekela and Jonas Gwangwa.

Fraser became famous after the release of her debut gospel album, Abbey of Bayombon in 2008. She went down in history in 2008 as the first winner of the “Best Female Gospel Artist” award at the SABC Crown Gospel Music Awards.
