Dr Zwanani Titus Mathe has been appointed Director General of the South African National Energy Development Institute (Sanedi) effective 1 October.

“The Sanedi Board would like to congratulate Dr. Mathe on his appointment. He brings a wealth of experience to the institution and its staff. The board pledges its support to Dr Mate and urges Sanedi executives and staff to do the same,” said Sisela Xulu, chairman of the board.

With extensive experience, Maté holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering and an MSc in Business Leadership among other qualifications.

Prior to leading key portfolios at Eskom, Mate worked as a Program Manager at the then Saneri, now Sanedi, from 2007 to 2010. During this time, he created the Hydrogen Economy Awareness Program and the Green Transport Program. This included the establishment of the Center for Alternative Transport Energy. He is credited with providing industrial support for the use of compressed natural gas in transportation.
