Dr Malinga talks about a rumored R500k black coffee donation and thanks celebrities who showed him love after an emotional interview. A few months ago, photos of musician Dr. Malinga’s belongings being confiscated went viral on social media. The singer finally sat down with MacG on his podcast last week to talk about what he’s been up to and what led to him losing the furniture.
Dr Malinga owed SARS about 2 million rand, he detailed how he paid half but claims he now only owes them 500 thousand rand. He explained how the COVID-19 pandemic affected his income, as he was unable to perform or book concerts, so he could not pay his taxes on time.
An emotional Dr. Malinga revealed how he was affected when Twitter blogger Musa Khawula tweeted photos of his belongings in July and told the world that the singer was broke and that he always helps people. “Everything I give to the people they don’t come for me” Musa Khawula announced that everything was taken from me, I was fine before because they took them in July and I thought I could recover everything from – for SARS, but could not because the money is not coming in.” – he shared crying.
After the interview, which went viral, several local celebrities seem to have reached out to Dr. Malinga. It’s unclear what kind of help they offered, but the singer later tweeted her thanks. From Mahadi, who invited him to perform at her One Woman Show, to industry legends like Oskido and Black Coffee, they all came to see him. However, he cleared up rumors that DJ Black Coffee gave him half a million rand, saying: “Hello guys @RealBlackCoffee I didn’t give 500,000, let’s not mislead people, thank you, goodbye.”
Check out his series of tweets congratulating all the celebrities who reached out to him and his fans.
