After much of her private life has been exposed to the media, DJ Zinhle has been very intentional about sharing her life with her legions of fans.
These days, she mostly announces and documents her major milestones through her reality TV show Unexpected.
In the first season of her show, she announced that she is expecting her second child, Asante, and in the second season, she is getting married. Well, sort of…
The first episode confirmed one of the entertainment industry’s worst secrets: Zinhle and her lover Bongani Mahasana invited cameras into their lobola negotiations.
Episode one of Unexpected saw cameras capture a meeting between the Jiane and Mohassan families to begin the process of Bongani and Zinhle’s union.

Last season, Zinhle was praised for her attitude towards marriage after she revealed that she didn’t want one and how she was perfectly happy without one. And now she is about to begin the long process of marriage, the first step of which is the negotiation of Labola.
Maybe BET will renew her show for another season to capture DJ Zinhle’s marriage process as she and Bongani hold gift exchange ceremonies between their families in addition to other rites and rituals performed in Zulu families.
After fans finally saw that the couple was indeed married, Zinhle took to Instagram to confirm their union, calling Bongani her husband on Instagram.
In most dowry-based cultures, a couple is considered married when the two families come to an agreement, even if the wedding ceremony has not yet taken place.
Earlier this year, Bongani made the mistake of posting a photo of DJ Zinhle wearing the same outfit she wore to a lobola negotiation. He also referred to her as his wife and one of his followers took a screenshot of the image and posted it to gossip blogs.
DJ Zinhle: Unexpected airs on BET Africa (DStv channel 129) on Saturdays at 7.30pm.
