Ghanaian British architect David Adjaye, founder of Adjaye Associates, was awarded the first Charlotte Perian Prize, an award established by the Association of Designers and the Créateurs (CDA).
Presented in memory of the iconic French architect and designer Charlotte Perian, Ajay was awarded a prize for his buildings, which “go beyond being a city landmark” and “create a real dialogue that takes place out of time.”
The Charlotte Perian Prize will be awarded annually and will be awarded to an influential figure who adheres to “Perian’s vision and commitment to architecture, design and the arts.”
“This is the first time the Perian family has allowed her name to be used outside of her direct work,” organizers said.
Perian’s daughter, Pernet Perian-Barsak, said: “When I read [Adjaye’s] words in the press or his approach that he describes on social media, I see how great [his and my mother’s] closeness to such an extent that real dialogue takes place out of time ”.

“[Charlotte Perriand] was a really broad reflection on what a profession can be, and understood the role of designers in their responsibility to make the 21st century so beautiful, just as empowering and educational [as possible] for people of all races – and for our human civilization to prosper, ”Ajay said.
Adjaye is one of the most influential names in modern architecture. Its distinctive attributes in buildings, rich materials, artistic layers and strong tectonics in buildings evoke different emotional worlds of users.
“I am very interested in the history of human activity, not the history of computer activity. My buildings look like places people want. This is very important to me, ”said Ajay World Architecture Community in an exclusive interview in 2018.

This is not the first prestigious award Adjaye has received. In 2021, he was awarded the Royal Gold Medal for Architecture by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA). He was also awarded the Isamu Noguchi Prize in 2020 by the Noguchi Museum. Ajay was named the most influential architect in the world Time magazine in 2017. In 2017, he was knighted as part of the Queen’s New Year’s Honor.
