CAPE TOWN – Cosatu says crime is out of control.
Last week saw a series of shootings in Cape Town and this weekend three people were killed in Mbekweni in Parle.
Cosatu staged a protest last week demanding more police on the ground, and provincial secretary Malvern de Bruyne said visibility in crime-ridden areas was low.
“We need boots on the ground, we need police in poor communities. We need the city to send police officers to high crime areas. They don’t do that. They continue to promote recruits, and we will not see them in the affected areas. We want more gang units in areas where crime happens every day, like yesterday they killed three people,” Bruin said.
