Dane Clayt claimed his first DStv premiership win as head coach against his former team Orlando Pirates thanks to Abdi Banda’s late winner.

Banda scored the winning goal with a header in the final minutes of the match.

Going into this game, Bucs coach Jose Riveiro started Tabis Magnan and Deon Hot at full-back after leaving them out in the previous match against FC Stellenbosch.

The Pirates had plenty of scoring chances but just couldn’t find the back of the net.

The Buccaneers were the better side in the opening moments, but their efforts were to no avail. The Pirates were looking for a morale boost and a second win of the season, with the Buccaneers drawing their last game against the Stellies.

Chilli Boys youngster Azola Matrose tried to spark some Chippa attacks but he couldn’t get past the Pirates defence.

Pirates had more chances but just couldn’t score and Kwame Pepra was the main culprit in front of the goals. The Ghanaian forward could have won the game in the first half for the Pirates if he had created the many chances he had.

The teams went into halftime with the Buccaneers in good control but still unable to capitalize on their big moments.

In the second half, the Pirates were still on top and Chippa did not threaten to score. Eva Nga missed a chance to put Pirates ahead after just half an hour, but his diving header went wide.

The match looked headed for a goalless draw but Banda put Chipa ahead in the closing minutes of the match to ensure the Chilli Boys would take all three points and give Clayt his first maximum of the season.

Pirates next face Royal AM away on Wednesday, while Chippa face Maritzburg United also away on the same day.
