China has removed some requirements for testing on COVID-19 for people flying to countries such as the United States, and has reduced pre-departure quarantine for some travelers as it refines its measures to handle the Omicron option.

Small easing has been made in response to factors including “characteristics of coronavirus variants,” according to reports from Chinese embassies and consulates, which did not provide more details.

From Friday, travelers from Dallas, New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle and Chicago will no longer need an RT-PCR test seven days before the flight or any antibody test, according to reports released late Tuesday by the Chinese embassy. in the US and several consulates.

These travelers will still need to take two RT-PCR tests within 48 or 24 hours of their flight – depending on which airport they take off from – plus another pre-flight antigen test, the reports showed.

Travel to and from China declined during the COVID outbreak as the country insists on its “dynamic zero COVID-19,” which imposes restrictions on the issuance and renewal of passports, mandatory quarantines for most travelers on arrival and flight cancellation.

But the shorter incubation period of the Omicron option has allowed a slight relaxation of restrictions for foreign travelers.

The capital, Beijing, has reduced the quarantine period at centralized arrivals for travelers to 10 out of 14 days.

Cancellation of the RT-PCR test seven days before the flight and elimination of antibody tests will apply to travelers to China from Canada starting Sunday, and those cured of COVID infection will no longer need to provide chest scan images, the Chinese embassy said. to Canada said Thursday.

The embassies in the United Arab Emirates, Serbia and Bangladesh said on Wednesday that they had lifted some testing requirements and reduced the pre-departure quarantine period for employees of Chinese companies to 10 days from 21 days.

Bangladesh has further reduced pre-flight quarantine for other travelers to five out of seven days, while Serbia has halved pre-departure quarantine time for some staff to one week, according to the embassy.
