As of Aug. 25, mainland China reported 1,628 new cases of the coronavirus, of which 312 were symptomatic and 1,316 were asymptomatic, the National Health Commission said on Friday.

That compares with 1,759 new cases a day earlier – 390 symptomatic and 1,369 asymptomatic infections, which China counts separately.

There were no new deaths, bringing the national death toll to 5,226.

As of August 25, China had confirmed 241,348 symptomatic cases.

China’s capital, Beijing, has reported zero cases for five straight days, according to local government figures.

The financial center of Shanghai reported one new local symptomatic case, up from none the day before, and one local asymptomatic case, up from six the previous day, with one of the cases reported outside quarantine zones, local government data showed.

The resort city of Sanya on the southern tip of Hainan Island, which is grappling with the outbreak, reported 6,279 symptomatic and 8,612 asymptomatic cases between August 1 and 25.
