Police Minister Bheki Chele is currently meeting with the Kagisa community west of Johannesburg.
This is part of his two-day stay in the area following the gang-rape of eight women allegedly by illegal miners last week.
The community then began furiously setting fire to property where they believed illegal miners were living.
One person died during the protests.
On Saturday, Chele spoke to the residents of the West Village and told them that his department will not allow the country to turn into a den of criminals.
“There should be a law in the country, I am told that rape has been turned into a hobby here. General Mavela, I would like to request that we send a special team of detectives to come and deal with these rape court cases,” Chele says.
