President Paul Kagame and his wife Jeanette counted by census officials

In Rwanda, the population and housing census began in 2022.

The census will be carried out over the next two weeks and will cost more than $28m (£23m), authorities said.

Preliminary results are expected by December 2022.

At least 20,000 officers are asking residents about the number of people in their homes.

Officials also ask people about their education level, health insurance, how they make a living, water and electricity, internet usage, phone ownership, among other things.

The last population census in Rwanda was conducted in 2012. According to the census at that time, the population of the East African country was 10.5 million people.

Among the first people to be enrolled are President Paul Kagame and his wife Jeanette.
