The family of Moses Maluleke, the slain mayor of Collins Chabane Local Municipality in Limpopo, says they are happy that more suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder.
Two more suspects were recently arrested, bringing the number of suspects to four in connection with the murder of Maluleke and the attempted murder of his son.
In July, Maluleke was shot dead at his home in Sikundu village, near Malamulele in Limpopo. Two additional suspects are appearing before Malamulele Magistrates Court for the first time.
Members of the public are also picketing outside the court.
A spokesman for Humphrey Mugakula’s family says: “We are very hopeful about the two arrests that were made last weekend and it gives us hope that this case is going somewhere and we believe that as the process unfolds it will give us something, justice , which we need as a family. By the way, we as a family get information, we don’t. It’s really something else because we get information from the NPA or the police. We get information through the media and it’s totally out of control.”
Two men accused of killing Collins Chabain mayor Moses Maluleke to stand trial
Tahoiandu-based businessman Isaac Mudau and co-accused Wiseman Baloyi have appeared before the Malamulele Magistrates’ Court in connection with Maluleke’s murder.
Isaac Mudau and local resident Wiseman Baloyi adjourned the case to August 25, 2022 for legal representation.
Mugakula says the accused must reveal their leaders.
“We are very disappointed. We are very familiar with these faces, especially Wiseman Baloyi, because we live in the same village with him. We didn’t expect him to do what he did. So we are disappointed as a family. According to the information we received from the police, we know that they have all the evidence that (links) them to the mayor’s murder. They should tell us who actually sent them to kill the mayor,” Mugakula added.
The alleged killers, Avhatakali Mudav and Shumani Nemadodi, abandoned their bail application last week.
Some people are picketing outside the court demanding that the accused be denied bail.
