Conservation organization CapeNature says people visiting the Western Cape’s nature reserves can learn valuable lessons about human-nature interactions.

CapeNature manages 31 nature reserves in the province.

The organization is encouraging young and old to take advantage of Free Access Week at all reserves from September 20 to 27, when visitors will be able to enter the parks for free.

CapeNature’s senior manager of marine and coastal operations, Pierre de Villiers, says Stony Point Penguin Colony at Betty Bay in the Overberg is one of the reserves where visitors can see how endangered African penguins have adapted, who live in the area. .

“Nature and the environment are a part of man, and here they can experience nature up close. The penguins are very tame so you can get some great photos and you can really experience their breeding cycles and understand the stresses they face when they go out to sea in the big waves. So it’s a really good educational place, it’s a schoolyard for everyone, old and young,” says De Villiers.

South African National Parks Week: 12 September 2022 – 16 September 2022

The Kruger National Park on Monday urged visitors to follow the rules during South African National Parks (SANParks) Week.

SANParks Week runs from 12 September 2022 to 16 September 2022, when all South African citizens are allowed free one-day access to most national parks.

Kruger National Park Acting Director General of Commercial Operations Hein Grobler urged visitors to prepare in advance as quotas will be implemented to avoid congestion.

Grobler said a number of events are planned to highlight the interpretation of some of the park’s cultural assets.

“We always ask guests to follow the rules and regulations when it comes to littering and speeding. We want to see everyone and have a good time in the Kruger National Park,” says Grobler.

Big attractions include wild animals, including the Big Five – lion, buffalo, leopard, elephant and rhinoceros.
