Lions are among the most strategic predators in Africa, they can be opportunistic hunters and often ambush their prey.
Buffaloes, on the other hand, have been known to seriously injure and even kill these carnivores by tossing them into the air or impaling them with their horns.
Obviously, neither of these two creatures had planned their strategy for the day, and when they came face to face, they were scared for life!
Faizal Sharif Noor witnessed this vision with his cousin and nephew. He shared the story with LatestSightings.com: “We were driving back towards Satara for lunch when my cousin spotted lions in the distance and shouted to stop. A herd of buffaloes were sitting together and we saw the first two lions rush towards them, leaving them unsettled. We then spotted another lion approaching from the opposite direction and waited for an ambush.
“When the buffalo came right up to the lion, a chase ensued and all we saw was dust with the giraffe and the buffalo running away. The lions returned unsuccessfully, and the sighting ended in piles of dust, and confused giraffes fleeing with the buffalo, and disgruntled hungry lions.
“We were all very excited and thought it would be our first kill. It was such an amazing sight! We witnessed – not just a hunt – but what appeared to be a perfectly planned strategy. We were worried and thought that the buffalo was walking straight into the jaws of death, and then… well, what a surprise!”
