Zikalala said he was resigning because it was time for new leadership to lead the province.

“We have arrived at a time to hand over to the next leadership to lead the struggle to build a national democratic society, a society where there is no racial or gender discrimination, a society where we eradicate poverty and achieve economic integration,” Zikalala said. .

Three candidates – Nomusa Dube-Ncube, Amanda Bani and Mbali Fraser – were presented for consideration by the ANC at the national level of the newly elected PEC.

For the first time in the province, a woman will become the prime minister.
