Task and purpose reports on a “new and somewhat disturbing recruit from the 4th Army Psychological Operations Group” that asks viewers one simple question: “Have you ever wondered who pulls the strings?”

The video in the form of a three-and-a-half-minute trailer for the film was released by the 4th PSYOP band on Youtube on May 2nd. It has since garnered 329,396 views, and it’s easy to see why: it’s not recruiting your father’s commercial. Complete with a horrible whistle in the background and intense music, the video is a far cry from the sometimes obscene commercials about recruiting the army that we often see on television. It’s dark and noticeably tense, clips of old cartoons and radio clips from world events combine perfectly, creating something intriguing and disturbing.

He does exactly what the soldiers of the psychological operation planned: to influence the audience. As one Youtube commentator noted: “Everything is a weapon. Even this video.” Colonel Chris Stengl, commander of the 4th PSYOP Group, told Task & Purpose on Friday that the video was created in-house, both for recruitment but also to literally show people what they are capable of – part of psychological operations – creating compelling Media. …. All over the world, Stangle said, psychological surgeries happen “literally everywhere, every day, in every component of our lives”. We see this happening in real time in Eastern Europe, where Ukraine is proving much more successful in the information war than the Russians.

This is no accident. Stengl said that after the annexation of Crimea in 2014, the US PSYOP community, along with other NATO allies and special operations communities around the world, began work to help Ukraine develop its own capabilities … “We helped through [military-to-military] partnership, we, as well as more than 12 allies and partners. And what we were able to do was just sit back and watch what their arguments are amazing … Ukraine did a masterful job, they were trained and the work we did with them, as well as their own inherent skill, and I just blew it up … “

U.S. Army PSYOP soldiers work daily with more than 40 countries around the world, Stangle reports. And these partnerships will be critical to success both in preventing future conflicts and in future conflicts as they unfold.

As the video says: “War is unfolding, and the whole world is a stage.”
