DURBAN – The Tongaat Civic Association has called on the government to urgently intervene to provide residents with water.

Community members protested on Thursday morning and said it had been four months since they had no proper water supply.

A treatment plant in the area was damaged earlier this year and a delay in the tender process to repair the plant is affecting the water supply.

“And we have one water treatment plant that was badly affected by the flood and could not clean the water in our region. We received water through the municipality, very unstable, inconsistent tankers. We have different JoJos located in different areas where Many NGOs , NGOs and civil society are also involved where they come, filling the JoJos and giving us mostly drinking water,” said Don Perumal of the Tongaat Civic Association.
