The husband was an IT professional in Polokwane, Sibi said.
He was stabbed several times outside his home in Maletjie, Ga. McVeigh, during a staged home robbery.
Sibi said:
When the police arrived at the scene, the deceased’s wife reported that three unidentified men forced their way into the house, assaulted her husband, took an unknown amount of money and a laptop and fled the scene.
The woman was later arrested along with her boyfriend, 27-year-old Agrinath Makhubela, and his 30-year-old alleged accomplice.
The third accused has become a state witness and the case against Makhubela has not yet been concluded in court.
“The investigating officer, Sergeant Noko Mashitisho, who works for the Provincial Investigation Unit, successfully opposed bail and the accused [was] is being held in custody until the end of the trial,” Siabi said.
The woman was sentenced to 20 years in prison for murder and seven years for conspiracy to commit murder. The sentences will run concurrently, meaning she will serve an effective 20-year sentence, Seeby said.
