CAPE TOWN – A Stellenbosch University student has been arrested for rape.
University officials said the rape incident took place on campus and that the perpetrator was detained by police on Wednesday morning. The alleged perpetrator, as stated at the university, will be dismissed from his place of residence in accordance with university protocols until further internal and criminal investigation by law enforcement agencies.
He added that now it is a criminal case and that the law will apply.
The university said the victim had opened a police rape case against the student. It said she had not yet reported the incident to the university’s equality department, but she had been provided with information on various ways of reporting the incident internally. It was said that she would be assisted in this.
“The rector and the university leadership strongly condemn all forms of crime and any human rights violations, including gender-based violence, and take immediate action in terms of victim support, investigation and disciplinary proceedings. a place in our society or on our campuses for acts of violence. Our hearts are sincere to the victim of the alleged rape, ”the university said in a statement.
This incident follows two incidents of alleged racism.
Last weekend, first-year law student Teuns Du Toit urinated on the desk and personal belongings of one of the residents of the city of Huis Mare Babalo Ndwana. Since then, Du Toit has been suspended.
