A father from Soshanguwe, Gauteng, has been found guilty of murdering his two-year-old son and attempting to kill his eight- and eleven-year-old sons.
He was also found guilty of raping his roommate, the mother of his children, as well as three violations of the protective order.
The name of the father must not be given, as this would reveal the identity of the children. From 2004 to 2018, the father maintained a relationship with the children’s mother.
She requested a restraining order against the accused. He violated the temporary protection order by assaulting her, breaking into her home and raping her.
“On August 24, 2019, he took his two-year-old son from his mother, and took his two sons, eight and eleven years old, to his paternal grandmother, and took them to himself.
“On the way, he fed them veins and Russian poisons, and when the 11-year-old boy refused to eat the veins, he attacked him and forced him to eat,” said National Prosecutor’s Office spokesman Lumko Mohanjana.
When the children fell ill, Mohanjana said he called their mother and told her he was going to kill them. “When the mother arrived, she found the lifeless body of the two-year-old on his bed. She called the police and took the two children to the hospital.”
The accused was detained on the same day at the station, where he tried to end his life by suicide, and has been in custody since then. Sentencing hearings have been postponed to November 7-11, 2022.
