DURBAN – A faction of the Amazulu royal family has traditionally crowned Prince Simakade as the king of the Zulu nation.

And this despite the fact that other members of the royal house and the government officially recognized his brother, King Missuzulu, as the leader.

On Saturday evening, people gathered at the Enyokeni Royal Palace for the initiation ceremony of Prince Shimakade into the kraal.

Members of the royal family who support him have said that only they can appoint the king.

They said that they do not recognize the king of Missuzulu.

After the members camped out outside the Enyokeni Royal Palace – with heavy police presence – the enthronement ceremony of Prince Shimakade finally took place to crown him as King.

On Saturday evening, around nine o’clock, a group of regiments and other royal persons gathered in the palace.

The media was not allowed to cover the process.

Those who support Prince Shimakade say he is now king.

They wrote to President Cyril Ramaphosa asking him to officially recognize him.
