In South Africa, 5,096 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified, bringing the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases to 3,899,841, according to the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NICD).
This increase is 20.9% positivity index. The majority of new cases are in Gauteng (36%) and then in KwaZulu-Natal (19%).
The institute says that due to the ongoing audit conducted by the National Department of Health (NDoH), the number of deaths from COVID-19 may be recorded.
“Today NDoH reports 41 deaths, and 12 of them have occurred in the last 24-48 hours. Thus, to date, the total death toll has reached 100,812, ”the institute said.
